Khaligraph Jones and Betty Kyallo are in the news today after a viral video was released showing the rapper serenading her with his explicit Lungula song “Stick”.
Betty had been interviewing the real O.G for her new K24 show WeekendWithBetty and it seems this particular episode will do well. All publicity is always good for you if you are in the media industry.
But that isn’t the thing that is getting on one certain musician’s nerves. Who is the musician? Vivian. The lady who is married to radio station owner Sam West had an interesting response to a post the T.V host had put on her Instagram page.
Betty had posted an image of herself and Khaligraph at his studios. The caption to the photo was:
Respect The OGs.
While many may have seen the post as fairly innocuous, Vivian used it as an opportunity to air a grievance that she might have been harbouring. She wrote curtly:
Great. Also support fellow women entertainers. Thank you.
Her reaction, especially with the on-going debate between artists and radio/T.V hosts about supporting Kenyan music and musicians, makes sense.
Vivian has been vocal about the issue, writing:
Even a broken clock is right twice a day! Acheni tufungue roho. Naskia fufu imeiva😂. On the real though when you live Kenya, you love Kenya, you build Kenya. Period. #playkenyan
To all the amazing and talented creatives on my timeline hiyo gift/talent ni yako, show us! We’re watching and taking it in! Usipanic.
Clearly, Vivian feels there is more the host can be doing with the huge platform that she has. How will Betty Kyallo respond to this challenge?
