Growing up abroad is an experience many people never get to experience and for some, it's an experience they wish they would forget.

Growing up as a black child of mixed race in countries dominated by caucasians comes with its own challenges with racism topping the list.

The celebrated Citizen TV host went to the US at age 10 and stayed there for 15 years.

Rubadiri who is born to a Malawian dad said she had a hard time trying to fit in.

2. Chero Oywa

The bubbly TV host lived in the US for 18 years before she decided to come back home. She is best known for hosting an entertainment show dubbed 'Straight Up.'

She was born in Bomet but raised in the US.

5. Victoria Kimani

Victoria who is sister to Kenyan artiste Bamboo was born in Torrance, California.

She grew up in the US but her family left the US when she was 14 and went to live in Nigeria.
