US secretary of state John Kerry is currently in the country and will leave tomorrow for Djibouti, the home of a U.S. military hub for the Horn of Africa region. His visit comes barely a week after Bill Clinton toured Kenya.
While honouring the victims of the 1998 bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi and a series of more recent attacks by Al Shabaab, Kerry said that it will be wrong for the government to withdraw its soldiers from Somalia before neutralizing all Al Shabaab networks.
He further said that there is the need for a clear exit strategy, that is successful and conclusive. Kerry also met the political leaders, including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
