Residents of Lepolosi village in Olulunga area of Narok South Sub County were shocked on Thursday after the body of a 20-year-old University student was found.

The body was discovered hanging by her neck in her bedroom in what village suspect was suicide case although police were yet to establish the circumstances leading to her death.

Narok South Deputy County Commissioner Felix Kisalu said the body of Moipen Sadera, who is a student at University of Nairobi, was found in her bedroom in her parent’s house.

“We have dispatched a team of investigating officers and the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) to the homestead so that they can interrogate the family members and close relatives as they investigate the matter,” he said.

The DCC called on residents to seek psychosocial support among peers, close family members, confidants or local leaders in case of any stressful situations to avoid occurrences of similar incidences.

Sadera’s body was taken to Longisa Referral Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, the body of a 21-year-old man who drowned in river Siyiapei on Tuesday evening has been recovered.

The man drowned at Kisiriri point when he was trying to rescue two girls who drowned while swimming in the flooded river two days ago.

Narok North Sub County Police Commandant Frederick Siundu said a team from the Kenya Police, Maasai Mara University divers and Kenya Red Cross Society has been camping in the area to recover the body that had sunk in the deep part of the river.

“We are happy that we have now recovered all the three bodies from the water. This is a big relief, however, we are saddened that we had to lose three people at a go in an incident that could be easily avoided,” he said.

KNA has learnt that the two deceased girls had travelled from Mombasa to Narok to visit their grandmother who lives in the Kisiriri area.

The girls are said to have learnt swimming skills in Mombasa where they live with their parents, however in this incidence, the water overwhelmed killing them on the spot.

The police commandant cautioned residents against sending children to the rivers to bath saying it is extremely dangerous during this season of heavy rains.

“I advise people to fetch water and go bath at home. Those doing irrigation along the riverbanks should also be very careful as sometimes the river floods sweeping everything on its bank,” he said.
