A teacher at Mukandamia Primary School has landed himself in deep trouble after allegedly beating a class three pupil to death because she could not read.

Reports indicate that the man who doubles up as the deputy headteacher ordered the girl's desk-mates to teach her how to read or beat her if she couldn't.

According to other sources, the teacher had injured Joy Wangari earlier and that asking her desk-mates to beat her was an attempt to cover up for his own mistakes.

The girl passed away on Sunday, January 26 at a hospital in Naromoru town where she was undergoing treatment.

Police are said to be in pursuit of the teacher who went missing after the incident. Parents withdrew their children from the school following the death of the 10-year-old girl.
