Recently we saw Eliud Kipchoge’s wife Grace Sugutt visit Vienna to go watch and support her husband as he ran in the INEOS 1:59 challenge.
One thing to note is that despite not having been present in all other races her husband has participated in, Grace has always been supportive.
There are however prominent athletes whose wives left them after alcohol and infidelity rocked their marriages.
Among them are,
- Asbel Kiprop
Asbel Kiprop became a sensation not for his running prowess but for an intimate video with a woman who was not his wife.
The three-time World 1,500 meters champion Asbel Kiprop was caught in a compromising situation with a married woman identified as Nancy Rotich.
Not long after that, he was banned over doping allegations.
In a tell-it-all interview with Switch TV, the 29-year old athlete said his wife of six years had walked out of their matrimonial home in Eldoret after a video of his escapades with his lover leaked on social media.
“She was also cheating on me I am sorry to say,” a visibly composed Kiprop explained during the interview.
So (by shooting the video) I was confessing to the man (my best friend) and the society of my wrongdoings.” Asbel said.
Asbel added that despite the woman he had cheated with being in good terms with her husband his marriage had broken.
“At the moment they (the woman) are on good terms with the husband but I have a problem because my wife is running away but I want to bring her back.
I told her that I was confessing to something that she didn’t know for two years.
You didn’t catch me.” He said
2. David Rudisha
David Rudisha recently opened up on his battle with alcoholism and divorce from his wife of many years Elizabeth Naanyu in 2016.
‘The pressure became too hard. I used to hang out with friends and party a lot,” Rudisha told BBC.
3. Dennis Oliech
Dennis Oliech a prominent Kenyan footballer was dumped by his long-time girlfriend and TV personality Paulah Mumia.
The damsel dumped him on social media, accusing him of being unfaithful and selfish.
“Some men are very useless! You will take care of them when they are broke but when they get the money they look for whores. I hate you!” she spat.
adding: “Never even think about me ever! Go to hell manwhore! Other men are busy investing, you’re busy investing in women.”
The posts were pulled down shortly after but when contacted, “I can’t talk about anything to do with that guy (Oliech). I’m done. I’m now focusing on my life,” said Paulah.
This came days after Oliech penned a two-year deal with Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia.
His sign-on fee was reported to be Sh1.5 million plus a monthly salary of Sh350, 000.
The public separation came as a shocker to those close to the couple, coming barely a month after the two went on a lavish holiday and spent in a bush lodge, littering social media with fun-filled photos.
Admitting that they had a blast, Paulah said,
“I respect what we had together. But I’m now focusing on my life and being around those who care more.”
