On Tuesday September 26th, a young man who happens to be a student of University of Nairobi (UoN) student pursuing engineering, set himself on fire at Equity Bank.

23-year-old Sylvester Anyiko Majonjo, who works (or is it worked now?) at Equity Bank's Bondo branch as an intern, reportedly attempted suicide because he was being investigated by the bank after it was discovered that he had fraudulently transferred Kes 200,000 from a customer’s account to his personal account on Saturday September 23rd 2017.

The UoN student locked himself inside his booth on that fateful Tuesday morning, douched petrol on furniture and documents and lit the fire.

Majonjo’s co-worker rushed to save their suicidal workmate when smoke detectors within the bank went on, they put off the fire using extinguishers. The UoN intern was eventually arrested when police arrived at the scene, he didn’t suffer any serious burns injuries during the ordeal.

Citizen reports that Bondo OCPD Paul Kiarie confirmed that the suspect was in possession of a plastic container which had petrol.
