About a week ago, a video surfaced online showing a woman being caned by some Swahili speaking men.

Speculation was rife among netizens that the flogging was a 'punishment' for sleeping with someone's husband, others were of the opinion that she stole something.

We can now put an end to the rumors after the woman in question came forward to explain why the men were flogging her.

According to Tanzanian media reports, the woman who has been identified as Ghati Chacha Makori was caned by village elders upon her mother's request.

Two men picked her from their home and placed her on a bicycle. She was then taken to a baraza where she found 12 elderly men seated.

She received 50 strokes of the cane before her mother who goes by the name of Anna was summoned.

The elders later explained that she (her mother) informed them that she called her a 'witch' and denied that she is her biological mother.

Anna, 53, also told the elders that her daughter had threatened to kill her after the former refused to allow her sell bricks that she had made in her compound.
