Netizens were left with their tongues wagging after Michael Njogo Gitonga - president Uhuru Kenyatta's doppelganger - went viral.

Days later, photos of Michael signing what looked like a sales agreement with Maridadi Motors.

Michael was also pictured inside a Lexus LX570 2016 that goes for around Ksh 15m.

It is not clear how or why a whisper campaign began circulating that Michael had been gifted a free car.

He has come out to set the record straight.

"Hello fellow Kenyans," Michael said in his video address, "Hii story watu wanasema nimepewa gari hiyo ni uongo mtupu. (This story making rounds that i have been gifted a car is a stone cold lie)"

He added,

"I am still in the house relaxing I am practicing social distancing and sanitizing. People should stop lying and say the truth. I am the real Michael Njogo Gitonga."
