A man in Rongo, Homa Bay County, went dumb after witches reportedly used a dead man's hand to slap him.

According to the Star, Otieno Ong'ondo, 45, shocked residents of Omware village when he returned home on Sunday with his story.

Ong'ondo went missing on Saturday after leaving home for Kisii and was found at 2 pm the following day.

His father John Achila told journalists on Tuesday that he had not uttered a word since returning.

"He has been communicating only in writing. He told us he was abducted by a group of witches from Kisii who walked him through a graveyard. He said the witches slapped him using the dried hand of a dead man after walking through fresh and old graves."

The man was abducted by unknown people who were in a Probox car as he walked back home.

"He told us the witches, who were all naked, ran across villages in search of people to lure with their charms," Achila said.

The man told his kinsmen he was placed inside a box at the time he was captured and then released at night.

The family said they didn't have money to take the victim to a hospital as his eldest child is in secondary school.

Achila appealed for help from well-wishers and anybody with knowledge on reversing the spell.
