She is one of the best musicians Kenya ever produced. Back in her hey days, Princess Jully' born Lilian Auma gave her counterparts a run for their money.

Her songs; Dunia Mbaya,  Wangni Wabiro and Aneno Lek dominated the local airwaves and no one could match her.

But after a few years, Princess Jully was nowhere to be heard. She had sunk into oblivion and is languishing in abject poverty. This information was brought to the limelight when the Nairobian ran her story which shocked many Kenyans.

"From my shop i distributed my music across the country and to Tanzania. Business was booming before I was hit by rampant piracy. I chose to live like my local rural women to help make ends meet for me easily,"  she said in an interview with the Nairobian.

Well, recently, Jully was visited by a good Samaritan; Ogola Winnie Augo who came to her rescue.

The Kenyan woman who also rescued popular boxer Conjestina Achieng who was deserted by the government after representing the country in the boxing arena, has started a campaign to help the famous Benga artiste's music, come back to life.

"Visiting Princess Julie was my main mission in Migori," posted Winnie.

''In the 90's we enjoyed her music my favorite being 'Aroko'. In soy where I grew up that was among the few luo musicians I knew, So when I started winners empowerment programme I noted on my list I must one day visit her at least to encourage her. 17th may I left Kisumu around 5 am and was received by her son in Migori town,'' Winnie wrote.

Princess Jully and her son, Makajully, have been struggling to revive her music career.

"Was at her home in Bondo Nyironge at 10 am. At first she was not very comfortable with me but later on she became relaxed we talked a lot while enjoying the lunch she made. As I was planning to leave and I handed her the small parcel I carried for her ( courtesy of my friends in Kisumu) she suddenly became so emotional."

According to Winnie, the Dunia Mbaya songstress was so happy and she took time to pray thanking God for sending the angel (Winnie) to rescue her.

''She prayed and prayed holding the parcel as her son almost broke down as well seeing his mum in tears. Then she calmed down prayed for me."

Princess Jully is slowly bringing back her music to life and Winnie says she performs at local events where she is paid very little which can't sustain her. Also, Princess Jully has been facing various challenges and throat infection is one of them.

"She has started singing in a small lakeside town called Sori but since she lost her instruments she is just employed. The income is not much that sometimes she ends up paying her back up singers anabaki bure she had a bad throat because of infections brought by sharing a microphone. Even if she treats it still comes back. So I will buy her a microphone next month so the pain goes permanently. That's the little I can do for her,'' Winnie said.

Winnie's story has moved many to tears but the question is if we don't have more "Winnies" in the country, who is going to save our heroes and heroines who are languishing in poverty?

Where is the government?

Meanwhile, Julie is currently in studio working on a new jam.
