TRUE STORY: How my crazy ex-girlfriend broke my heart

When I was in my final year in high school, I fell in love with this hot girl who was in her second year in campus. Yeah, yeah...I can already tell what you’re thinking. Love is blind...let’s just say that. We had been talking on Facebook for quite sometime...and when I graduated high school, we finally decided to link up.

Let’s call her Joanne (not her real name). She was calm, sweet and charming. However, as weeks went by, I began to see her true colors. When the December holidays came by, she traveled to Egypt for vacation, so we never got to really hook up. She was living in Nairobi and I was still in my mother’s house in Naivasha.

She was the wild one. She would do all those sorts of crazy things that university students do. Joanne was a party freak. Every time I called or texted her, she was always out with her friends. Could I trust her enough to make her mine forever?

Well, only time would tell. On my birthday, she called me from Luxor, Northern Africa. Up to this date, it has been the longest call a girl has ever given me on my born day...just to shower me with praises and blessings. You see, I was kind to her too.

All things changed when one morning, right after waking up, I was dumbfounded to read a very disturbing text. It was the most heart wrenching thing I’ve ever read.

“Hey love, I am sorry but I cheated on you last night…”

I turned off the music. I broke down...into mad tears. I didn’t know what to text back. By now I know you think that I was gonna let her go. However, our bond was so tight. We would text from 6AM till 12 midnight...nonstop. We were crazily into each other.

After deliberating with my inner soul, I decided to move on. Things weren’t easy. It was not an easy task at all, I tell you. Joanne would text me every now and then, just to say she missed me. I would fall into her trap, again and again, no matter how badly I wanted to move on! Till now, she still is on my case. Well, not really, but every 7 or so months, she texts me to spark the flame.

As you’ve seen, there’s nothing worse than an annoying ex who can’t take a hint. In cheeky, charming musical comedy (2015-current; the first season is on in Kenya), lawyer Rebecca Bunch (played by series creator Rachel Bloom) is just that. She was dumped at summer camp by her high school crush Josh and she’s never really got over it.

As you’ve seen, there’s nothing worse than an annoying ex who can’t take a hint. In cheeky, charming musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015-current; the first season is on Showmax in Kenya), lawyer Rebecca Bunch (played by series creator Rachel Bloom) is just that. She was dumped at summer camp by her high school crush Josh and she’s never really got over it.

Now an adult, Becca is struggling at work. She’s depressed, on medication and makes impulsive decisions without considering anyone else. And that’s a problem when she bumps into Josh again (played by Vincent Rodriquez). He’s moving to California after his career in New York didn’t work out – and so Becca is, too.

She isn’t only quitting her dream job and moving across the country on a whim, she’s also got a sneaky plan to win Josh back. She’s going to “date” his bartender bestie while secretly convincing commitment-phobe Josh that they’re destined to be together.

And if that fails, Becca can serenade him – Rachel and her co-stars write the songs and each episode has a ditty or two, complete with titles as hilarious as the lyrics, including “A Boy Band Made Up of Four Joshes”, “Having A Few People Over” and “West Covina”, the first song performed on the romcom.

Be sure to watch the series on Showmax.
