Celebrated South African comedian Trevor Noah has pulled-out of his highly anticipated hosting gig at the 6th edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) to be held in Johannesburg this coming Saturday, the 22nd of October.

In a message posted on Noah’s Twitter, the comedian explains that he has been battling a “severe upper respiratory and ear infection” and will be unable to travel.

Here is his full statement posted on his Twitter page explaining why he is sad to have to miss out of this year's awards.

This year, Kenya has a chance to bringing a number of awards home as Sauti Sol have a shoe in to win one at least one of the four categories. The pop group has been nominated under  Best Group, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Collaboration for their hit single “Unconditionally Bae” featuring Alikiba.

Anyhow, according to numerous media outlets, organizers have confirmed that media personality Bonang Matheba will be replacing The Daily Show host.

The ceremony will feature stunning performances from African and international artists along with the show’s signature cross-genre and cross-border collaborations.
