Trans Nzoia Man Runs To The Cops After Murdering Wife, Fears Neigbours Would Lynch Him

Residents of Matisi in Trans Nzoia county were left in shock after a man killed his wife and surrendered himself to the police station for fear of being lynched by the neighbours.

25 years old Anthony Karanja is said to have attacked his wife Esther Wangoi, 23, a mother of one, hit her with an axe on the head and stabbed her severally on the chest with a knife yesterday night.

Confirming the incident Trans Nzoia West OCPD Jackson Mwenga, said that there was a confrontation between the two after wangoi found a  love text message from karanja's girlfriend on his phone.

"The incident occurred a round 10:00 pm on Saturday night but no neighbour noticed the confrontation as the music coming from the house was on full blast," he said.

He said that on Sunday at around 3:00 pm Karanja surrendered himself to the police station for fear of being lynched by the neighbours.

"The neighbours only knew that there was an incident of murder after our officers went to collect the body," he said.

He said that Karanja will be arraigned in Court tomorrow to answer murder charges.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kitale county mortuary.

Trans Nzoia women rights activist Immaculate Shamalla has condemned the incident. She said that women are not punching bags and that they need to be loved and respected.

"Domestic violence has been increasing rapidly and gaining acceptance in our society," she said.

Speaking to the star on phone she urged the Trans Nzoia woman member of Parliament and other elected leaders to network with various stakeholders and initiate programs that promote welfare in families and social protection of the vulnerable.

She noted that there is a need to educate the community on rule of law and rights.
