According to local media reports, the crash occurred after an Easy Coach bus collided with a matatu that was heading to Nakuru at around 1pm.

The bus lost control while negotiating a sharp bend and rammed into the matatu which was reportedly being driven at high speed.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that a lady who was seated at the co-driver's seat might have caused the accident after pulling the steering wheel when she saw an oncoming lorry in the middle of the road, however, the driver resisted and ended up hitting the bus head on.

The four who died were passengers in the Prestige Shuttle matatu while a similar number who were in the bus sustained injuries and they were taken to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital.

The area where the accident occurred is a popular blackspot which has claimed many lives in the past. A few years ago, more than 130 people were burnt alive while trying to siphon fuel from an overturned tanker.

Here are the photos. We could not post the rest because they are too graphic.
