Reports filtering in at the moment indicate that professor Ali Mazrui, one of Kenya's most reknown scholars has passed onto glory. His body is currently being transported back to Kenya for a burial according to Islamic rites.

Ali Al'amin Mazrui was an academic, professor, and political writer on African and Islamic studies and North-South relations at the time of his death.

Born on February 24, 1933 in Mombasa, Kenya Mazrui studied in Columbia University, University of Oxford, University of Manchester, Nuffield College, Oxford.

He was also an Albert Schweitzer Professor in the Humanities and the Director of the Institute of Global Cultural Studies at Binghamton University in Binghamton, New York.
