Kenya is one of the hardest places to try and establish a business. And that is a fact. There is so much red tape you would think the government doesn't actually want you to start a business! But several brave Kenyan celebrities dared to attempt to go into business but while that is commendable, they found the going tough and in the end, had to close shop.

I have compiled a list of 6 celebrities who attempted to start businesses and failed miserably but I must clarify for the stupid amongst us that Uncle Chim Tuna isn't trying to make fun of them but merely stating the fact that they learnt the hard way why business schools keep stressing the fact that 90% of all businesses fail within their 1st year.

#1. DNG -website

DNG started a website called 254digital that went belly up because he decided to keep an enormous team that consisted of a bevy of beauties and an engorged editorial staff with no real serious understanding of the business aspect of having a glossy website.

I recall him talking greasy at some event at Carnivore and chuckling with my partners in crime and as I wagered he wouldn't last 6 months in that space... He didn't

#2. Octopizzo -condoms

From producing glow in the dark condoms to boxer shorts, Octopizzo has never lacked ambition. The Kibera born and bred rapper had been touting the fact that he would be launching his own brand of condoms but nothing ever came to fruition. Especially since they promised a rather wicked feature; glow in the dark!

#3. Avril -earphones

Avril was set to launch her own brand of earphones called "Gs and Fs" but nothing ever really did happen. So sad that her venture failed at conception. It would have been wonderful to have our own little Beats story to tell as Kenyans.

#4. Kaytrixx -merchandising

Kaytrixx took a dive into the fashion world with his own stab at merchandizing. I am not clear as to whether or not he is still at it but the fact that I do not see people wearing his shirts means he failed at it. Perhaps due to poor marketing.

#5. Prezzo -record label

Prezzo tried his hand at running a music label called Makini Music Group but from the manner in which his artists suffered humiliations before deserting him is an indicator that this was a failed venture -unless ofcourse he is the only artist in his label.

#6. Lexxy from XYZ -cologne

This chap was meant to be Kenya's Diddy what with the launch of his cologne brand that was to be sold at select stores around Nairobi -read challenges of supply. The chap launched amid alot of pomp and fanfare but to no ado. The product was a dud.

Don't be disheartened though folks, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
