In the Kenyan music scene, artists have to work extra hard and be creative so as to remain relevant in the competitive industry.

We have veteran Kenyan singers who have been in the game for a while now, others even clocking a decade and are still running the show and it seems that someone is not liking this trend at all.

Some of the artists who have been around for a while include: Wahu, Jua Cali, Nameless, Eric Wainaina, Nonini, Suzzana Owiyo, Bamboo, Suzanna Owíyo, Redsan, Collo and more. But, is it time we got more new talent from the country to fill in the industry and let old folks take a breather?

Well, Grandpa Records CEO, Refigah tends to think so. While speaking to local daily, the producer, real name, Youssouf Noah openly admitted that he is tired of old celebrities and a change would do it for the game.

Find out how he blasted old Kenyan celebrities on the next page.

Granpa records is best known for producing the Fimbo series of songs, with the recent star-studded Fimbo Ya Tatu being a big success and hit after its debut, featuring it's members Visita, Kenrazy and more

Refigah believes that fresh, new talent and diversity is the way to got at the moment if we want our music industry to grow and for change to be realised. The artists who have been there since the 90s need to take a chill pill and let up and coming ones top the charts.

This is what he said.

As much as we have been trying to help the old-guard remain relevant, our focus is on fresh stars and now we have a list of over 2,000, whom we have started training. We are tired of having the same old guys ruling the charts and as Grandpa, we have invested in new talent to ensure this change is realised.

Well, clearly, this award winner is out to reveal what no other producer has been able to do. He continued:

Everyone one knows that Grandpa has taken over as the leading stable and our next agenda is to change the face of the industry once and for all.

There you have it, someone courageous enough to talk about what should be improved in the Kenyan music industry, which is somehow dragging down compared to our East and West African countries.

Do you agree with Refigah or not?
