In August 2014, the late Rhumba legend Papa Wemba (R.I.P) performed in Nairobi at the bi-monthly music extravaganza, Koroga Festival. He was simply electric! It's sad that barely two years after his thrilling show in Kenya, we had to say goodbye to the Congolese maestro last week, after he collapsed and died in the middle of a performance in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Months after his Nairobi, other great African music legends have come forth to perform at the music event. Zimbabwe's Oliver Mtukudzi, South Africa's Yvonne Chakachaka, Senegal's Baaba Maal and Wemba's long-time protégé Koffi Olomide followed months later.

In between, we've had some young blood also showcasing their musical prowess at the same stage. Uganda's Jose Chameleone, Tanzania's Ali Kiba, Mi Casa, Simphiwe Dana and Mafikizolo from South Africa and Kenya's Sauti Sol and Nameless are among the younger generation of artistes who have been to Koroga Festival.

Yesterday at the Nairobi's Arboretum Gardens, legendary Cameroonian saxophonist and vibraphone player, Manu Dibango (real manes Emmanuel N'Djoké Dibango), was at the same stage doing what he knows best!

The 82-year-old veteran jazz musician, who rose to worldwide fame thanks to his 1972 monstrous hit, Soul Makossa, headlined the music extravaganza, alongside his incredible band, the Soul Makossa Gang. Also on stage was Uganda's Maurice Kirya, Kenya's Edward Parseen and The Different Faces Band and singer June Gachui. DJs Adrian and Andre rocked it on the decks.

Dibango, who over his illustrious music career has chucked out an amazing 72 albums, latest being the Balade En Saxo in 2013, showcased his incredible expertise on the sax as he belted his hit songs. The show was simply amazing to say the least.
