Born in a family of sportsmen, Victor Wanyama aka Mugabe the son of AFC Leopards legend Noah Wanyama is the current Harambee Stars captain and one of the best midfielders in the country. Victor is the younger brother to McDonald Mariga while his other brothers Thomas and Sylvester play for Kenyan Premier League clubs Sofapaka and Sony Sugar respectively. Their younger sister Mercy plays basketball. Here are the things you didn't know about Kenyan star Victor Wanyama

  1. Wanyama became the first Kenyan player to score in the UEFA Champions League when he scored the first goal in Celtic’s 2–1 win over Barcelona in 2012.

  2. Wanyama attended Kamukunji High School

  3. After leaving Kamukunji High School he played for JMJ Academy

  4. In 2007 he joined Allsvenskan club Helsingborg but after the departure of his brother McDonald Mariga to Serie A side Parma in 2008, Wanyama returned to Kenya.

  5. Wanyama was signed to Beerschot AC in 2008

  6. He was fined €100 and given a three-match suspension for a violent tackle on Matias Suarez

  7. In the summer of 2010 Scottish Premier League club Celtic attempted to sign Wanyama but Beerschot did not allow him to leave. Russian club CSKA Moscow also attempted to sign him, but they failed as well.

  8. In April 2011, he received another three match suspension after video evidence showed he had elbowed Brecht Dejaeghere of K.V. Kortrijk

  9. He was signed to Celtic for £900,000 making him the first Kenyan to play in the SPL

  10. Wanyama made his debut for the Kenyan national team in May 2007, at the age of 15 .
