Kenyan football has seen rapid growth over the past decade. Footballers have now adapted to more sophisticated lifestyles unlike the olden days of football legends like Joe Kadenge.

With more than 3,000 football players in the country, Kenya continues to produce new talents from every corner of the nation and who knows, maybe one day they will all play in Europe a dream for many. But despite them making us proud at different levels, most of the people do not even know a single player from the national team nor the top clubs and if I remember well, yesterday while watching Gor Mahia vs KMKM, my colleague Vincent Otieno was struggling to name a single player from Gor yet he has been an ardent K'ogalo fan since he was young.

Well, I took the chance to name for him all "Wuon Timbe" players including the technical bench and let me hope from now henceforth, he will attend all Gor Mahia matches. For the clueless like my colleague, here is how to spot a Kenyan footballer in a crowd.

1. Dress code

No one can beat them when it comes to latest trends. They are the trendsetters in this category; some of them even forget that they are supposed to be on the pitch playing; seems fashion has gotten into their head.. But wait ,who advises them on what they wear? Just like their counterparts in Europe who have been named best-dressed footballers in the world at some point, Kenyan footballers also try their level best to fit in the category even though they dress in more than 4 colours.

2. Bow legs

This should have topped the list. Most of them are bow legged and according to study, they are also highly susceptible to knee ligaments problems, such as the anterior cruciate tears which can be devastating to a players career. If you spot a man with bow legs somewhere, he is likely to be a footballer and that's why many of them have a funny walking style.

3. Hairstyles

Dreadlocks, mohawk, perm, curl, name them all. You will never miss to see a Kenyan footballer in any of these hairstyles. They tend to invest so much in hairstyles than their career. I think the Kenyan football governing body should organize a fashion contest for fans to gauge the winning category.

4. Surrounded by ladies

As they say, like poles repel and opposite poles attract and I totally agree. These footballers are like magnets, from stadiums to public gatherings, they always attract quite a large number of girls. I am not sure if girls just like them because of their physical attributes or because of their money, although most local players are paid peanuts. However, women tend to love them regardless. Attend reggae night and you will be shocked by the number of women surrounding them. The same applies to stadiums where ladies hang around changing rooms after every match just to take a snapshot with them.

5. Chewing miraa and Smoking shisha

"Kuchana" as they refer to it is the order of the day whenever they are not in training. If you happen to visit some of the popular shisha dens, you will not be amused, they are always chewing miraa more than they can swallow. Shisha smoking is also fashionable among the local players
