The Gladys Kamande and Ndungu Nyoro saga has finally come to an end.

Gladys Kamande whose plight moved a street boy to tears and Kenyans into contributing towards her medical kitty, has of late been at loggerheads with activist Ndungu Nyoro.

Ndungu was at the forefront of fundraising for her cause but last month they were tussling over the remaining balance of Ksh.4.3 million - many claimed that she wanted to use the funds buy a piece of land  (buroti maguta maguta).

But, after consulting widely, Ndungu Nyoro wired KSh. 2m Kamande's medical fund and the rest put into a medical trust to help other Kenyans with medical needs.

Nyoro wrote of Facebook, "Perhaps you've been wondering what became of the story of GLADYS KAMANDE. I have an update that will clear all that and hopefully put the matter to rest.

Be my guest.

Behind the scenes there has been lots and lots of consultations. It is in everybody's interest to have the issue closed and perhaps focusing on more pressing matters. But God has been faithful to us through and through.

On 2nd August, Gladys Kamande, her daughter Annita, her mom Jane Kabaria, her brother Mwangi Kamande, a family friend Mwangi, 3 members of Mercy Ministry namely Winnie Maina, Kahindo Waraho Prince Paul, Cllr John Kibue, a media representative and an advocate held a meeting at Boulevard Hotel Nairobi.

The matter was discussed at length but finally came to a conclusion.

The members in attendance scrutinized all documents tabled and agreed we can now close the chapter. Of the verified Bank statement, the available Balance was Kshs 4.3M

The hospital bill plus Gladys' cash for local use summed up to Kshs. 300,000 leaving a balance of Kshs. 4M.

Members indicated to the family that majority of Kenyans were not comfortable with entire amount being given out to them for comfort yet many Kenyans are stuck in hospitals for lack of funds to facilitate basic treatment.

At the request of Gladys Kamande's mum, those in attendance agreed to transfer Kshs 2M to Gladys Kamande for her future hospital travels and the balance of Kshs. 2M be retained to assist other Kenyans in need of medical intervention.

On 3rd August, the three joint signatories namely, Jane Kabaria (Gladys Kamande's mom), Cllr John Kibue Kibs (her landlord) and myself met at Equity Bank Kasarani. Also present was Advocate Lillian Wairimu and Annita Mwangi (Gladys Kamande's daughter) as witnesses. We transferred Kshs. 2M to Gladys Kamande's personal account and signed a TRANSFER AGREEMENT to that effect.

The three signatories closed GLADYS KAMANDE MEDICAL ACCOUNT and the balance of Kshs 2,005,644 transferred to a joint account that will be run by mercy ministry for assisting in paying medical bills.

On 4th August Rev. Salome Kimani, Prince Paul Kahindo, Winnie Maina, John Kibue and I visited KNH Paediatric department. Top in our minds was helping clear bills for a number of patients who were discharged weeks or months back but have not been able to for lack of funds.

With the help of Social workers and KNH Public Relations department we moved from one ward to another vetting the possible beneficiaries.

After an exhaustive exercise, we narrowed down to 12 beneficiaries. They are as follows:

Between vetting and approving the cases , we were able to offset bills for the above 12 patients totaling Kshs. 686,514.

The joy on the faces of the mothers kept us pushing for their 'freedom' until 9p.m when all matters were cleared.

I cannot fail to appreciate and commend KNH staff in all the offices we walked in for assistance. We definitely are going to come back.

We also encouraged ALL the beneficiaries to have registered with NHIF to ensure they have been covered for future cases. 90% had registered by the time of clearing with the hospital.

Of the remaining cash we intend to support few more needy cases that require specialized treatment.

We have in mind one young girl from Mathare slums who has seen it all. A teen mother as a result of rape, she is a class 8 orphan originally from Mt. Elgon but now leaving under the care of her aunt at Mathare slums in household of 18.

She has been having severe bleeding since the beginning of this year and requires pads on a daily basis.

We want to step in and see if she can be helped.

Our brother Ronald Bigget came back from India midway in his treatment. We want to stand with his family t support his treatment.

Thank you so much for all the support. We value your contribution and prayers."
