Kenya Rugby Union rival faction has suffered first set back after Benjamin Ayimba rejected the post of KRU director.

In a Special General Meeting convened yesterday by Stormers RFC and attended by 30 clubs from both Nationwide and Kenya Cup League, the former Kenya Sevens team head coach was elected as one of the directors.

However in a turn of events, Ayimba has declined the post citing lack of proper use of existing channels to vote out the current KRU board.

“It’s only one month to the AGM, why can’t we wait? That raises a lot of eyebrows why an SGM would be called just before an AGM, since there is no urgency” Said Ayimba.

“ I don’t think I will be of much impact from whatever position I get, after taking over from way a of coup, what is our agenda? I was speaking with one of the guys who was involved in the lobbying but I could not get any clear road map” He added.

Ayimba who once contested for the same post but lost in the elections says the new guys lacks clear plan for the Union. Ayimba says even if they have a plan, they have not shared it with him and he cannot execute it with passion.

“As much as I appreciate the fact that they have the confidence in me I don’t think it’s the right way to get in the Union, for now I’m really concentrating in ways that can my family income stable”. Said the former coach.

Ayimba further revealed he had earlier met newly appointed secretary and former KRU CEO Jack Okoth who requested him to join his team.

“ I had met Jack Okoth and two of his lobbies and he told me I should be in their lineup and I told them they can fight the wars, I will be able to support whoever it is that gets to the office, all along I did not know they wanted to include me in their team” He said.

The newly appointed team is set to take over tomorrow from 3pm and official hand over should be conducted early next week since most KRU directors are in United States for the Las Vegas Sevens.

Kenya Rugby Union has been rocked in crisis since last year which led to resignation of former coach Paul Treu, three directors as well as Chairman Mwangi Muthee.

Whereas the Board of directors led by Gabriel Ouko have vowed to clean the mess at the Union, it remains to be seen if they will walk the talk especially after failing to release Simpson Osiemo report which was investigating conduct of KRU directors. The deadline for the report was 20th of last month.

Ayimba says the latest crisis might do more to the game.

“It is at the worst time because the sponsors are looking at these Shenanigans and when you see such things, you lose a lot of confidence” He said.

The newly elected officials are led by former vice chairman Sasha Mutai who will be deputized by Gerald Chege while Jack Okoth is the secretary.
