A teacher said to have been involved in a love triangle with his female and male colleagues has been charged in court with attempted murder.

Timothy Musembi Mutie who denied committing the offence appeared before the Wanguru Senior Resident Magistrate Monica Kivuti today morning

Mutie denied that on March 3 this year at Karoti Girls High School, Mwea East Sub-County, he unlawfully attempted to murder his colleague Alphonse Orina Omwenga by cutting him with a panga on the head and both hands.

The court-ordered that Mutie who was unrepresented be released on a bond of Sh 100,000 with a surety of same amount.

The magistrate further directed that Mutie’s criminal case be mentioned on March 17 before a hearing date could be set.

Meanwhile, Omwenga is still recuperating at a private health care facility in Ngurubani town following the 11.30 am ordeal on a material day.

It was claimed that on the material day Mutie stormed into the school staff room during the tea break while armed with a panga covered in his jacket.

He then sat inside the staff room where he found the victim marking some examination papers as his colleagues started to stream out after taking their tea.

He sat still until only the victim and another teacher were left in the room and without warning seized the opportunity and attacked Omwenga who was caught off guard.

As he tried to defend himself from the assailant, Omwenga sustained serious head and hands injuries.

The screams from the victim brought learning at the densely populated school (1000 plus students), to a standstill.

The attacker then fled from the scene and jumped over the gate where he dropped the weapon. He hurriedly stopped a bodaboda and directed the rider to take him to a nearby Chief’s camp at Kimbimbi market.

Mutie was then formally arrested and driven to Wanguru police station and locked in until this morning (Monday) when he was charged with the serious offence.

The female trainee teacher said to have been involved in a love affair between the two male colleagues has since been ordered out of the school.

It was not clear if Kenyatta University, the college that had sent the woman to Karoti for her teaching practice would take her to another school to complete her internship.

Mutie’s vehicle which he had left parked within the school compound has since been towed from the premises. He will remain locked up in custody after he failed to raise the bond.
