Tabitha Karanja, the Kericho Breweries founder and mother to the late Tecra Muigai has revealed how shocked she was when she first saw photos of Omar Lali.

This was after her daughter sent the photos via WhatsApp.

This she revealed to Magistrate Zainabu Abdul on Tuesday during an inquest on her daughter's death.

"I told her that she had send the wrong photo [because] the guy was too old for her. But Tecra wrote back, insisting that the old man in the photograph was indeed her boyfriend. “She told me, No, he is the one,” said Tabitha.

She narrated how she tried unsuccessfully to persuade and convince her daughter to stop dating Lali.

“At some point, she told us to stop [discussing] that topic,” said Tabitha.

The family is still trying to look for justice for their daughter's death as they allege it was not accidental.

Tecra is believed to have fallen off the stairs of a private house in Lamu where she was staying with her boyfriend Omar Lali in March 2020.

She was the last born daughter to Tabitha Karanja and sister to Anerlisa Muigai.
