According to court papers, Josephine Thuku; the Kwale woman who claims that Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko is the father of her two children, was once his girlfriend while in college  and they allegedly had their first child in 1999 and the second born in 2008. After the claims, a DNA test was carried out at the Government Chemist in Mombasa, but Josephine came out to say that she doubts the credibility of the test. According to her lawyer Mr Shimaka, Sonko allegedly picked up the children from school and privately took them to for the DNA test in a doctor's house.

Josephine has been demanding Ksh.140,000 per month for upkeep from the senator. But through her lawyer Mr Shimaka, Sonko was asked to continue paying Ksh.15,000 and school fees for the two children as they wait the next hearing that is set for December 17th.
