When Lupita Nyong'o debuted as a Hollywood actress, Kenyans went into a social media frenzy and there was a lot of excitement for representing the country as the first Kenyan to be in a top, global movie.

Lupita debuted with a feature film role as Patsey in Steve McQueen's historical drama 12 Years a Slave, which saw her win an Academy Award/Oscar for the Best Supporting Actress, which is not an award you get overnight.

But what most people don't know, is that Lupita Nyong'o is not the first Kenyan to work with A-list actors/actresses or to feature in , there is another big, well-known actor who goes by the name, Edi Mua Gathegi.

Edi has acted in more than ten blockbuster films and around 15 Television programs in Hollywood, the most notable being, playing as Laurent in the films Twilight, its sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Darwin in X-Men: First Class.

The intriguing fact about Edi is that he was born in Eastlands but grew up in Albany, California in the US. Edi discovered his talent and love for acting when he took up acting classes as an easy course to curb his depression after he injured his knee while playing basketball at the University of California.

Gathegi's career began in theater; then he started TV and film appearing as a recurring character Dr Jeffrey Cole in the television series House, as Cheese in the 2007 film Gone Baby Gone.

When Gathegi first auditioned for the Twilight series, he had not heard of it and was not aware that his character was a vampire. He has now read the whole series and calls himself a hardcore fan.

Though the Eastlands actor has only one nomination and has not won an award like , I think this guy has really done a lot as a Kenyan and deserves an accolade.

Check out the list of Hollywood movies and TV programs he has acted in below.
