The CS in ministry of information Fred Matiang’i is now accusing mobile operators from the war-torn country of Somalia of interfering with Kenya’s mobile network.

The CS has identified border towns like Mandera as the most affected adding that they are seeking ways of resolving the issues which he terms as a security threat.

He said that the issue had been raised to his ministry by the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and the intelligence with calls for urgent action.

Matiang’i said that he had raised the issue with his Somalia counterpart two months ago but there was nothing much he could do as the operators were not controlled or licensed.

We are concerned with the mobile network interference mainly on the eastern border by mobile operators in Somalia and we shall definitely take action. - Information CS Fred Matiang’i

He admitted that such a problem had been experienced around Taita Taveta on the Tanzania border but this was being addressed.

We are working on the same platform with Uganda and Rwanda in network connectivity and this has increased mobile data and reduced by over 60 percent the cost of making calls.
