A family in Busia was left in mourning after their son died while undergoing surgery after getting injured during a rugby match against another team.

The form three student died at the Eldoret Referral hospital.

The boy, identified as Eliakim Oundo got injured during a match between Sigalame and Nambale high school rugby teams.

He was a student of Sigalame while the person who injured him was a student from Nambale.

Speaking about the incident to Radio Maisha, Oundo's father said that he blames the teachers for not taking action as the Nambale students had threatened to hurt their counterparts.

'Some teachers told me that even before the game started students from Nambale had threatened to do something to students from Sigalame.

They said that an ambulance should be on stand by as mtu atakufa ama aumie.

I feel like the school management should have taken precaution on learning about the 'threats' between the two teams' said the distraught father

The incident occurred on Friday.

Oundo had initially been taken to Busia referral hospital before being transferred to a private hospital named Life Care which is Bungoma county.

He was then again moved to Eldoret referral hospital where he died.
