Images depicting terror have emerged from the country after an attempted coup was thwarted. The most catching ones are of a police officer who open fired at a crowd after it got violent.

In reaction to this, the mob approached her relentlessly, disarmed her and dragged her down a tarmac road.

The protests come as a mixture of a disappointment caused by President Nkurunzinza announcing his intention to run for a 3rd term and the failed coup. Locals have engaged police officers in raging battles. The leader has jetted back to the country from Tanzania and has assured the nation that everything is okay.
