SHOCKING! Find Out How Much Kenyans Spent On Scotch Whisky Last Year

Kenya's middle class spends way too much money on ridiculous things; alcohol being one of the biggest things that wananchi spend their hard earned money on.

According to a report by the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA), Kenyans spent a whooping Sh568 million on Scotch Whisky in 2015 alone. This is represents a six percent growth compared to the previous year’s earnings of  Sh534 million.

Kenya has over the past five years recorded significant growth in Whisky sales driven by demand from the growing, well-traveled middle class with high disposable incomes.

“This uptake of Scotch is being driven by Kenya’s increasingly sophisticated middle class as well as the country’s growing economy.” - Helena Mumdzjana, SWA’s trade policy manager for Africa.

This undoubtedly means that Kenyans spent more than Sh568 million on alcohol last year, given that Scotch Whisky is said to get into the country through non-formal entries and other Whiskeys were not included.
