Shield Win for Kenya Sevens in Hong Kong

The Kenya Sevens Rugby Team has won the Shield in the Hong Kong IRB series after beating Japan 26-7 in the final.

Tries from Billy Odhiambo, Collins Injera and Leonard Mugaisi were enough to give the national side their second win in the tournament. Katsuyuki Sakai scored Japan’s lone try in the first half.

The win means Kenya has collected three points in the tournament to bring up their entire total for this season to 32 points. Shujaa drop to 13th place in the IRB rankings ahead of the Tokyo IRB series.

It wasn'tt one of the best outings for Kenya this season as the national side had to wait until today to secure their first win, beating Portugal twenty one nil in the Shield semi finals.

During the match Lavin Asego scored two tries and Collins scored the third one with Asego converting all the tries. Earlier on Kenya had lost 21-10 to Canada in the Bowl quarter finals.

Focus now shifts to this weekend's Tokyo IRB series where Kenya has been pooled in Group C alongside South Africa, United States and Canada.
