Preparations for the burial of former Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe are underway. Mugabe died on Friday in a hospital at Singapore aged 95.
According to The Straits Times newspaper, Mugabe died peacefully surrounded by his family; wife Grace, daughter Bona and grandchildren, and his niece, Sandra Molai, and her husband were with him when he died.
Mugabe’s children have been affected by their father’s death and his second-born child with Grace. Robert Mugabe Junior is yet to speak.
His last born son Bellarmine Chatunga has been sharing emotional messages about his father and his latest message read,
My head is a very dark place.
In another message, he wrote,
I just wanna die.
Chatunga has deleted all the photos on his Instagram account and his brother Robert Mugabe Junior deactivated his account.
According to Zibwabean media, Mugabe gave instruction on where he would be buried, and that was at his village of Zvimba, about 100 kilometers northwest of Harare.
He didn’t want to be buried at the country’s National Heroes Acre.
Grace can’t go against the wishes of her husband. It would be a dishonoring of his memory. As of two weeks ago, I heard expressions such as ‘principles cannot be sacrificed for political expedience’, a relative said.
Mugabe’s body is expected to be flown back home this week.
