Popular Politician’s wife has given male sponsors a stern warning.
Cord leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida has warned them against messing the lives of girls that those sponsor’s “support” through payment of school fees.
She also asked boda boda associations to reign on their members who have been accused of seeking sexual favours from school girls.
“We shall tell them to leave our girls alone. We want the girls to be future leaders,” Ida said.
Accompanied by various county first ladies to the launch of Teen Mentorship 2016 forum in Busia on Wednesday, Ida said such practices must stop.
Over 550 teenage girls from 110 schools in Busia attended the launch hosted at Busia Agricultural Training Centre.
They were warned against following people who cannot assure them of a better future.
Ida told school-going girls not to accept free gifts from boda boda riders, further asking them to report person who make suspicious advances towards them.
“Even if you hike a lift from such riders make sure you never succumb to any demands,” she said.
Bungoma’s Dr Margaret Lusaka, who is also chairperson of Western and Nyanza First Ladies, said no mother gives birth to idiots, thieves, prostitutes but to a bundle of joy.
“We will make sure the girls remain a bundle of joy for us,” she said, adding that their group has a revolving fund to support disadvantaged girls in the region.
Olivia Ranguma (Kisumu) told girls not to let boys get them astray, and to make use of every minute that comes their way.
Hope Mruttu (Taita Taveta) urged girls to use their talents to succeed in life and to love themselves as beauty queens in their own making.
