Kenya's favorite band, Sauti Sol, has done us proud beating huge continental acts such as R2Bees (Ghana), Toofan (Togo), Navy Kenzo (Tanzania) and Mi Casa (South Africa) to win Best Group at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) held in Johannesburg, South Africa on Saturday, October 22.

The year looks promising for the 'Sura Yako' hitmakers as the award comes barely a week after they won the Best Group award at African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA).

Last year, the band that is made up of Polycarp Otieno, Savara Mudigi, Willis Chimano and Bien-Aime Baraza were nominated for the same award but they lost out to P-Square from Nigeria.

In the same year, Sauti Sol also was nominated for Best International Act (Africa) at Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards but they failed to bring home the award.

Nigeria dominated the 2016 MAMAs which saw Wizkid walk away with three major awards: Artist of the Year, Best Male, Best Collaboration. Yemi Alade took home the Best Female award, while Tekno was named Best Breakthrough Act.

South Africa did not do so bad either. Cassper Nyovest picked up Best Live Act while Emtee bagged Best Hip Hop award. Caster Semenya won 2016 Person of the Year. Hugh Masekela was given the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Congratulations are in order Sauti Sol!
