Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip who suffered serious head injuries after being attacked at a Nairobi club says his political enemies wanted to assassinate him.

He was in the company of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's daughter Saumu when the incident occurred on June 5. The senator was admitted to Aga Khan Hospital.

Loitiptip who spoke to the Star on the telephone from his hospital bed implicated officials in the Lamu county government and land grabbers.

He said it was his nonchalant attitude towards corruption, land grabbing and drugs had almost cost him his life.

He, however, said the attack only made him stronger and more focused in his resolve to fight for what is right for the people of Lamu.

The senator, who is still recuperating at the hospital, says he is more than convinced that his political enemies planned the attack.

He said they wanted it to look like a love triangle when they are the ones who sent the goons to beat him up.

“Their attack was obviously a well-planned diversion to make people think the worst of me. But I can say for sure that, it had nothing to do with the lady I was with. It was the tycoons, drug and land cartels that I am fighting in Lamu who are behind it," Loitiptip said.

"I know that for sure. They don’t like my attitude towards their activities but let them be informed that I'm not slowing down any time soon,"

The senator promised to release a full list of all tycoons who have grabbed land in Lamu once he leaves the hospital.

He also promised another list of notorious cartels that are responsible for illegal narcotics trade in Lamu.

“I am not scared of death but in the meantime, I am going to name all those land grabbers and drug cartels in Lamu. Those people who have imprisoned our youth, I will lay them bare for the world to see,” he said.

His remarks come days after his family urged the government to ensure all those behind the attack are brought to book.
