Sarah Wairimu Cohen, estranged wife of Tob Cohen has written to Chiromo Mortuary opposing the release of the body to Gabrielle, sister of the deceased, for burial.
Speaking outside the Chiromo mortuary where the postmortem was being conducted, Philip Murgor revealed that his client has demanded that after the exercise, the body of the late Cohen not be released to anyone else.
“The notion that the sister is entitled to the body is alien in the Kenyan Law…..
Sarah is innocent under the Kenyan Constitution and nothing has happened so far to take away her right to her husband’s body,” Murgor said.
Murgor criticized Cohen’s sister for indicating that she would be burying the body under Jewish custom.
The court has also granted police 24 more days to continue detaining Peter Karanja over the murder of Dutch tycoon Ton Cohen.
Kiambu senior principal magistrate Stella Atambo said in her ruling that prosecution through detective Inspector Maxwell Otieno has demonstrated they have compelling reasons to have such orders of 14 days.
Peter had been arrested for allegedly hiring hit men to end Cohen’s life.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV Cohen’s brother-in-law talked of how he had in the past convinced Cohen to go back to his home country to no avail.
‘Never, I am more Kenyan than you are and I know more about this country than they do (Kenyans).
