Safaricom is undergoing rapid expansion, from being a native telecommunications company and venturing into realms you've never expected it to do. For example, it has sponsored sports, arts and music over past 5 weeks. The most recent move is starting a school.

The M-PESA Foundation Academy is "a state of the art, mixed boarding high school that will provide world class education," says a media release that appeared in dailies today. The company has sponsored rugby, marathon, music tours in Kenya and hosted a host of international musicians.

This school will support academically brilliant but economically disadvantaged students and will effectively transform them into future leaders who will bring massive economic success to the country in the immediate future.

"As such, students will work with teachers and one another to design projects that can solve real world challenges. Students who will graduate from The Academy will be leaders in fields of interest such as business, academia, politics, sports and the arts," the report shows.

The school will start admitting students January next year. Who knows the Safaricom's next big venture?
