Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore is no more.

He passed away today morning July 1, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. He was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia and traveled to UK for treatment in October and returned in July 2018.

The CEO has been undergoing treatment for this condition since then and it worsened a few weeks ago.

He dies aged 61 and has left behind a widow Wambui Kamiru and four children.

Safaricom chairman Nicholas Nganga confirmed the death and part of the statement read,

It 's with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of Robert (Bob) William Collymore CEO of Safaricom. PLC, which occurred at his home in the morning of July, 1 2019.
