Four people died Wednesday evening after more than 10 vehicles were involved in an accident at a blackspot near Salgaa on the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
Several others sustained serious injuries in the 6 pm incident and were rushed to Nakuru County Level Five Hospital.
According to an eyewitness, the driver of a truck transporting timber beams from Eldoret lost control of the vehicle after its brakes reportedly failed thereby ramming into several oncoming vehicles.
“The trailer was speeding and as it went over a bump, it lost control and hit more than seven vehicles,” said Mary Kamau, a resident.
Paul Muhia, another witness took to social media to narrate the horrific ordeal and he wrote;
“I have just witnessed a grisly road accident this evening along Nakuru – Eldoret highway at Migaa area near Salgaa town where a trailer has lost control & ran over more than 5 vehicles! Never in my life have I witnessed such a horrifying scene. Am still in shock but I thank God for the gift of life as I pray for the injured & the bereaved.”
The four people died on the spot during the 6 pm incident.
Police said at least five trailers were involved in the crash.
Kenya Red Cross personnel had to use special machines to cut through the wreckage of a small vehicle where three passengers were trapped.
