An assistant chief saved two men from being lynched by parents who accused them of bewitching St Charles Okanya Primary School in Musikoma, Kanduyi, Bungoma South.

The two were among 10 people suspected of sending evil spirits to traumatise pupils that have led to the death of three pupils.

The parents were in a baraza on Friday when they threatened to set them ablaze.

Chief Robert Wafuwawa asked residents to be calm and patient as police investigate.

One of the accused men is a neighbour to the institution and had sold his land to the school. He is said to have complained that he was not fully paid.

Another man is one of the founders of the church that began the school 12 years ago. He has allegedly been heard speaking ill of the school.

“This man has majinis [spirits] and we will deal with him the right way if he does not let our children learn in peace and pass their exams,” a parent said.

Head teacher Eliud Walekhwa said they called the meeting to address the issue that has led to many transfers. He asked the Ministry of Education to intervene.
