RIP! Universiry student commits suicide in Gilgil after buying new clothes

A university student hanged himself in Gilgil town yesterday soon after the arrived from Nyahururu town.

The student first bought a pair of new clothes from one of the shops and wore them before packing the old set of clothes in a bag that had other effects.

A witness, who declined to be named, said  it was not clear the motive behind the suicide as the deceased did not leave behind a suicide note.

The deceased was a student from Laikipia University and we are still in darkness as to why he travelled all the way from Nyahururu only to commit suicide.

Gilgil OCPD Emmanuel Opuru confirmed the incident and said the body was taken to the area mortuary.

He added that they were still baffled by the incident and the move by the deceased to first buy new clothes before taking his life. He said;

The deceased had new clothes and shoes when he committed suicide and we have opened an inquest file following the bizarre incident.

Meanwhile the business community is Naivasha has been left mourning after one of the leading traders was hit and killed by a speeding car within the lakeside town.

The trader Njoroge Kiarie who was the pioneer behind ‘Maruti’ matatus was hit by a pick-up near Guest Inn hotel while crossing the road and died on the spot.

Njoroge was vocal in the town’s politics and matatu sector and his death was met with disbelief and shock among friends and relatives.

According to the CEO Naivasha Professional Association (NPA) Absolom Mukuusi, the death had robbed the town a resourceful individual.

He said that the deceased was a member of the association and attended their monthly meeting a week ago before meeting his death. He said

We are praying for the family at these hard times and asking our drivers to be cautious while on the roads as speeding has claimed so many lives.
