Comedian Idris Sultan was arrested on Tuesday and has been under police custody since then.
Tanzanian media pundits say that he was arrested for an ‘online crime’.
Speaking to SNS, his lawyer Advocate Benedict Ishabakaki said Sultan was arrested for Cyber Bullying.
A video that got him into trouble is said to be that of Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli.
Sultan shared a video while laughing at a throw back photo of the president.
“It depends with the country because of how people take the comedy. We do political comedy. It is part of art but maybe its different with our country. Other countries like the US, South Africa and even Kenya do political comedy,” said Sultan’s lawyer
The lawyer says Sultan is yet to be released.
Last year, the comedian was arrested for photoshopping President Magufuli’s face and super imposing it on his body and vice versa.
After his released, he apologized to the public in a press conference and explained that he is a comedian who uses his art to make people laugh.
