Rest In Power! Kenyans Pay Tribute To Wangari Maathai Six Years Later

She was and will continue being a legend. And on 25th September 2011, the entire world woke up to the news that Professor Wangari Maathai was no more.

She succumbed to death after fighting ovarian cancer.

Well, Kenyans are still celebrating the founder of the Green Belt Movement who hit headlines by winning the 2004 Noble Peace Prize.

Professor Muta Maathai was recognized internationally for her struggle for democracy, human rights, and environmental conservation.

In 2003-2007, she was appointed as an Assistant Minister for Environment and Natural Resources in Kenya’s ninth parliament and represented the Tetu constituency in Parliament.

Six years down the line, the Professor is still recognized for her good work that is still seen to date.
