Radio journalist fired for stealing Ksh 100k from the boss

A journalist and his wife were charged with stealing Sh 109.069 from their employer.

The court was told, they sneaked into the station premises and committed the offence while their boss was away.

Vincent Nucci, a Sub-Saharan Africa Bureau Chief in charge of Italian Radio based at Ufungamano house, told Kibera Senior Resident Magistrate that the couple stole his money.

Mark Mbao with his wife Walley Mewange entered the office and took at least Sh 100,000 and left the premises without tampering with anything.

Nucci explained that they used their pass cards to access the room with the cash.

He said that after getting the information, he informed the police who arrested the two and took them to Parklands Police Station where they recorded statements and arraigned in court.

Nucci told the court that he received a phone call from the head of Human resource who is also an administrator informing him that the money has been stolen.

He said that the CCTV Cameras on the building clearly showed him and his wife as they entered the building.

His lawyer advised him accordingly to wait until the radio journalist completed his contract before he dismissed him after thorough investigations.

He said that the termination of his employment was as per the investigations done.

“Mark was my employee, I dismissed him after the investigations were done and the contract was expelled,” he said.

He said that the CCTV Camera revealed the truth and as he observed the footage repeatedly for some days. He said that the accused was the one who stole the money and nobody else.

The Magistrate directed the matter to be heard expeditiously again on July 27, 2019.
