President Yoweri Museveni's daughter, Diana Museveni, has officially announced the dissolution of her 18-year marriage with businessman Geoffrey Kamuntu.
Maintaining privacy, Kyaremera decided to address the public about her divorce to clarify the situation for the sake of her children, stating, "I have tried to keep my divorce private and out of the public sphere for the sake of my children."
She presented the "Decree Nisi," confirming the legal termination of her marriage in 2022, expressing the emotional difficulty of divorce, especially with children involved.
In the same year, she formally applied to NIRA to change her name from "Kamuntu" to "Diana Museveni Kyaremera."
She went on to appeal for public support during this challenging time, saying, "I ask that the public continues to pray for my family as we move forward from this difficult time and that you will respect our privacy."
Diana met Kamuntu at her sister Natasha Karugire's house and fell in love instantly. They got married on July 24, 2004, and they had three children, two boys, and one girl.
This development follows President Museveni's recent Women's Day speech, where he discussed paying the bride price for all his daughters to promote socioeconomic transformation and address gender-based violence.
The Ugandan Head of State has three daughters namely Diana, Natasha, and Patience.
He mentioned moving away from the practice of asking for bride price and stressed the importance of families adopting positive marriage practices.
According to Pulse Uganda, Museveni mentioned a conversation with one of his ministers who attended a wedding where the refusal to accept dowry from a man was observed.
At this particular wedding, the bride's family opted not to accept the groom's gifts; instead, they requested the groom's family to choose any number of cows they desired.
In the end, the groom's family left with 90 cows. "The groom's family couldn't believe it, but that is what happens when families move out of poverty," explained Museveni.
President Museveni's wife previously disclosed that her daughters got married as virgins, having signed "true love waits" cards and abstained until their wedding nights.
