Several years after the Kenya Kwanza regime took office, President William Ruto and Former President Uhuru Kenyatta were photographed shaking hands at a public gathering on Saturday.
This occurred during the inauguration ceremony of the president-elect Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, which took place on Saturday in Kinshasa.
Tshisekedi was sworn in at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa, having secured more than 70 percent of the total votes cast during the general elections held in December 2023, ensuring his re-election for a second term.
Uhuru attended the event in his capacity as the Facilitator of the EAC-led Nairobi Peace Process. During the inauguration, the Former President sat a few metres away from Ruto.

Since Uhuru endorsed Azimio Chief Principal Raila Odinga for the presidency, deviating from his earlier promise to support Ruto, the two leaders have not seen eye to eye.
The handshake between Uhuru and Ruto at the inauguration has sparked reactions from Kenyans.
