Mumias East MP Peter Kalerwa Salasya has been arrested and released on bail following an alleged assault on a county assembly member during a Friday funeral in Mumias.

He is set to be arraigned on Tuesday, January 16th, facing potential charges of assault, causing bodily harm, and disturbing the peace.

The incident unfolded when Salasya attended the funeral of Jesmus Kodia in Maraba village.

According to the alleged victim, MCA Peter Walunya Indimuli, he welcomed Salasya to the podium and requested the MP to maintain decorum in his speech.

This reportedly resulted in Salasya shouting at Indimuli and ordering him to sit down, ultimately leading to a physical altercation with slaps and blows.

The commotion sparked panic among mourners, with the situation escalating as shots were heard. Security intervened, and police from Shianda arrived to restore order and allow the funeral to proceed.

Indimuli filed a police report and underwent a medical examination, leading to Salasya's arrest.

This incident adds to the controversies surrounding the first-time MP. He is currently under investigation for allegedly threatening a magistrate in a separate case, with the police file under review.

Salasya is yet to publicly comment on the recent assault allegations.
