Robert Alai the Kileleshwa MCA said his father used his passion for reading to treat the family, as he could not afford proper health care.

The Azimio legislator spoke on Thursday during the health task force handing-over ceremony at City Hall.

“Coming from a family of 25 children, we couldn’t afford healthcare. We survived on my father reading the book and treating us himself,” Alai said.

The book his father read was ‘Where There Is No Doctor.’

The book acts as a guide for caring for people's health when resources are extremely limited because of distance, poverty, or poor infrastructure.

His father's experience motivated Alai to be passionate about health matters.

Alai urged Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to ensure that by the end of 2027, all 85 wards in the city have at least one public health facility.

He also asked the county boss to ensure that all households can access the National Health Insurance Fund.

“No family should be made poor because they are trying to rescue the body of their loved one in a mortuary. Health services should be accessible to all people regardless,” Alai said.
