Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua today promised to sponsor a bash for learners in Komarock Primary school and their teachers.
Gachagua promised to give the money during his visit to the school on Tuesday to monitor the progress of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations.
He said he would contribute sh400k.
Sh300k will be for the learners while Sh100k will be a reward for the teachers.
"So you will finish your exams tomorrow and head home? Si I can plan a bash a day after that? Is that okay? Since I have come, I will also give the headteacher 300k so that after the exam you can come and celebrate as you bid each other good bye. We will not leave the teachers behind, I will give them 100k for the teachers so that they can also celebrate."
Netizens have termed that as a misplaced priority with some claiming he would have channeled the money to Kenyans who have been affected by drought.
His statement comes a day after launching a paybill number where Kenyans can contribute funds towards Kenyans affected by the drought.
Gachagua announced the move saying it will enable Kenyans to help other Kenyans in dire need of food, water and other supplements.
"The National Drought Response Steering Committee has today released the PayBill and bank account details that will allow Kenyans to donate cash to assist those impacted by the ongoing drought," Gachagua said.
Here is what Kenyans have said in regards to that.
Davie Ng'ash: Ume contribute ngapi so far Kwa Ile playbill bwana Gachagua?? Anyway let me mind my own biz.
Kamasasa Amos Ephraim: Gachagua, these kids are facing exams. Its not time to entice them. Leave the kids to be handled by teachers at this crucial moment.
Fanta Francis: For those who were born in the 20's this is how moi used to do to keep in touch with the masses but doing nothing.
Odhiambo O. Ken: Moi tactics..it is good to appreciate the teachers and learners, you would have bought books, chairs.
Anthony Kerry: Yes, let us use half a million for party, but let people contribute the little they have for the hungry.
Dorine Kanguha: Si I thought kuna venye huyu msee amelaunch paybill ya kusupport guys suffering of hunger ama??
Luengele Mukhwana Duncan Major: People are suffering from hunger ,children dying of malnutrition please ungepeleka hio pesa northern Kenya.
Kipkirui Nicholas: Could this money be channeled to the paybill 880990 to aid the hungered, salary earning teachers be given 100k, and 300k for wanafunzi na sio fees. I have directed my shadow to go hustle elsewhere for with this economy it's difficult for two creatures to follow each other.
